Functionally, these hulking monstrosities resemble the Archons of classic Starcraft, wielding an unspeakably powerful Psionic Shockwave that can quickly send even the sturdiest of enemies into submission. The Twilight Archon combines the traditional Archon and Dark Archons into a single unit, meaning that 2 Templars of any combination (2 High Templars, a High Templar and a Dark Templar, or even 2 Dark Templars)will be able to merge and form a Twilight Archon. While High Templars and Dark Templars wield very different forms of psionic power, all templar souls have the innate ability to merge with another to form a powerful psionic entity that is the Twilight Archon. They don't have staying power though, so use them carefully around enemy detection. Wielding double-bladed Warp Scythes, these deadly warriors pour fourth tremendous amounts of damage, making skilful use of them extremely rewarding as the tides of battle can be turned with these in an instant. The High Templar is also able to merge with another High Templar or Dark Templar to form the mighty Twilight Archon, allowing Templars to continue to dominate the battlefield even after they have exhausted their energy supply.įunctionally identical to the Dark Templars of old, these shadowy warriors are permanently cloaked assassins that can cause total chaos among enemy formations or economies on their own if the opponent is caught without detection. When a few High Templars are used in collaboration with one another, an expert player can wreak havoc within enemy lines and wipe out entire forces with just a few accurate casts of this ability. The psionic storm is an area of effect ability that deals heavy damage to units within its area over time. With a psionic storm, a swarm of Zerglings or other similar units will be decimated from afar. Returning from classic Starcraft, these esteemed spellcasters of the Khala wield devastating abilities that can easily change the tide of battle. This temporary replacement to the Star Relic has yet to show its true power, but it remains to be seen whether the Nullifier can effectively complement a Protoss ground force in battle.

Available only after constructing a Twilight Council, the Immortal is not an early-game unit, and its true effectiveness doesn't come into play until after a critical upgrade - Hardened Shields.Īvailable at the Gateway after a Cybernetics Core, the Nullifier is a ground-based support unit that hovers over the battlefield and uses weaponry that slows down the movement speed and attacking rate of a single enemy unit, whether air or ground. The difference lies in how one would utilize these units in battle.

The Immortal is a ground based Protoss ranged unit, similar to the original Dragoon, yet vastly different. In this sense, it replaces the Dragoons in the Protoss tech tree.įrom the few remaining veteran Dragoons came the Immortals. Essentially the dark version of a classic Starcraft Dragoon, the Stalker is the first mechanical unit available for the Protoss at the Gateway after the construction of a Cybernetics Core. The essence of a Dark Templar fused into a mechanical casing, the Protoss Stalker utilizes the much-honed Dark Templar arts of stealth to strike unseen from the shadows. Like all Protoss units, the Zealot is equipped with a personal protective shield which effectively adds to his health, turning him into an early-game tank, of sorts. The Zealot is a ground based, Protoss melee infantry unit. These warriors have trained since their youth and it shows as they fulfill their heavy assault troop role. In addition to this the probe is the resource gatherer for the Protoss, bringing in Vespene Gas and Minerals for use by the Protoss armies.Ī classic StarCraft unit armed with psi-blades and protected by heavy armor.
